With 99.5 MW photovoltaic panels, Kristal Solar Park on the Kristalpark III business park in Lommel is the largest solar park in the Benelux. The 93-hectare site, which is the size of 200 football fields, contains no fewer than 303,000 solar panels and 2,200 kilometres of cable. The mega solar park produces 85,000 MWh per year, the equivalent of the annual consumption of nearly 25,000 families, and avoids annual CO2 emissions of over 30,000 tons.
Companies that set up at Kristalpark III in the future can plug into the solar installation and thus be supplied with green energy. In addition, the site’s natural surroundings were taken into account during all phases of this project.
The solar park was installed by ENGIE Fabricom, which will also be responsible for the maintenance of the solar panels for fifteen years. LRM, the city of Lommel and Nyrstar together invested 60 million euros in Kristal Solar Park.
