LRM to invest 250,000 euros in the start-up of the familial SME Jordens Datacenter
TONGEREN, 16 SEPTEMBER 2011. The “green” data center, Jordens Datacenter NV (Jordens DC), Tongeren, was inaugurated today. LRM will invest 250,000 euros in the SME through a subordinated loan. The additional funds will help in building the first modules and the future growth of this modern, modular data center.
Cloud computing and data storage
There is a growing trend in the market to offer software and hardware applications as a service. The applications (in the case of software) or the servers, networks and storage infrastructure (in the case of hardware) are no longer physically located at the end user's premises, but in the "cloud".
Many companies and institutions do not have the facilities required for business-critical data storage at their own buildings. A data center is a central location with a large number of servers. The scale allows for providing optimum conditions and "backup", which greatly increases reliability.
Both trends cause a strong increase in the demand for additional data center capacity. With its data center, Jordens DC responds to this growing demand.
Speed, security, and reliability
The modern, modular, green data center offers companies the space to accommodate their business-critical Web and Internet infrastructure.
Jordens DC provides emergency power supply, optimum fire prevention, sufficient cooling, heavy security, and fast, redundant Internet connections. Thanks to these measures, the business risks in case of power failure or fire are minimised, and the critical information is stored safely, and accessible 24/7.
The customers can choose between three basic configurations: Low budget, Standard, and Premium rack, in relation to the desired power supply and redundancy. As a “carrier neutral” data center, Jordens also offers the choice between a selection of fast internet connections via Telenet, Mobistar, Belgacom of Syntigo.
Green
The data center complies with the latest standards in energy use, and uses 100% green energy. Currently, the possibilities for alternative energy and heat recovery are being examined. The cooling process also plays an important role in energy consumption. To this end, a partnership has been established with ABN from Munsterbilzen. The limited energy consumption allows Jordens DC to position itself as a "green" data center, thus creating a major competitive advantage.
250,000 euros as leverage
The data center industry is very capital intensive, meaning that from the start, relatively large investments are necessary. The infrastructure for the first modules involves an investment of 1.6 million euros. Jordens DC was looking for a financial partner not only to support the financing of the first modules, but also to help in guiding the future growth of the company. It was a request that LRM could respond to as an investment company with expertise in the ICT sector and LRM is providing a subordinated loan of 250,000 euros to complete the financing.

Jordens DataCenter NV is an initiative of Ghislain Jordens, who has been involved in installing fibre optic networks for several years. Jordens started planning a data center in Tongeren at the start of 2011. Jordens Datacenter NV leases data center space per rack, and provides for the growing demand of companies and institutions to accommodate their business-critical Web and Internet infrastructure externally.
